By Dalton Zehr Racing/M.P.H. Promotions Port Orange, Florida (01/08/2007): The Fifth Anniversary 2007 Season in the ASA Late Model Series Presented by GM Performance Parts is expected to be the most highly anticipated in the entire United States! All three divisions within the ASALMS are preparing for the 2006 ASALMS Awards Banquet as well as the 2007 ASALMS Drivers/Owners Meetings coming up on Saturday January 20, 2007 at the Clarion Hotel and Convention Center in Louisville, Kentucky.
The talented crop of future super stars in the ASALMS Southern Division are gearing up for their second season of ASALMS competition. The Top Seven in the final 2006 ASALMS Southern Division were all rookies in 2006 and are all preparing for what will be an exciting 2007 year for all seven pilots. All of them now have a year under their belts and look forward to improving from their freshmen seasons.
One driver who can’t wait for the 2007 season to get going is the ASALMS Southern Division Overall and Rookie of the Year Runner-Up, Dalton Zehr! For the 2007 season, Zehr will run the full season in the ASALMS Southern Division. He will also be doing some dirt modified and late model stock car racing for Circle Track Magazine. In addition, Zehr is a sophomore this year and he is currently home schooled through an online program so that he has time to travel with his racing.
Zehr’s 2007 season will get started with the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing during 2007 Speedweeks at the New Smyrna (FL) Speedway. The Port Orange, Florida teenager will run for the 2007 Speedweeks Championship in the Crate Late Models division at the fast 0.500 Mile High-Banked Paved Oval in New Smyrna, Florida by racing in the marathon eight races in eight nights chase.
“2006 was a great year for us. It was an excellent start up year and we learned a lot. We hope to use that knowledge in the next season.” Stated Zehr as he re- shifts his focus towards the 2007 season. “2007 is going to be very competitive; the series is attracting a lot of talented drivers this season. I’m looking forward to the challenge and I hope to be a contender for the points this year. The Coleman Racing Products #119 car has never been better and I think we have a great shot at the championship.” Predicted the 16-year-old.
The now 16-year-old (On Monday January 8, 2007) had a banner rookie season in the ASALMS Southern Division that was trumped only by 2006 ASALMS Southern Division Champion and Rookie of the Year, James Buescher. Nevertheless, the Sunshine State teenager’s freshman season in the ASALMS is definitely worth writing home about!
Overall during the 2006 season, the 15-year-old during the season, and youngest full-time driver during the 2006 campaign, claimed Five Top Five finishes including a season high second place at the Orange County (NC) Speedway on August 19, 2006 during the extended distance Dr. Pepper 150 Presented by Zaxby’s Real Chicken. He also had 10 Top 10 finishes to finish in the runner-up spot in the Overall and the Rookie of the Year Points Standings.
Zehr started racing at age seven in Caldwell, Idaho, his hometown, in Box Stock Outlaws (winged dirt cars) in his first race he placed second and proved that was no fluke as in his second race he won! Zehr began running Bandoleros in 2002 at age 11 and started out with a bang. He won 10 races in a row and overall, Zehr won 17 out of 26 races that he entered. He won the track championship after missing one race that season. Zehr also recorded the highest points average in the nation in the Bandoleros division.
During the 2004 season and at the young age of 13, he turned his attention to the Fast Kids truck series and the winning didn’t stop there! He won seven out of the 17 races for the 2004 season. Zehr finished in the top three in 15 out of the 17 races on his way to the 2004 Fast Kids Truck Series Championship.
Zehr then took his show on the road during the 2005 season and traveled all over the country gaining as much experience as possible, all the while running regularly at New Smyrna and Orlando (FL) Speedworld. Dalton ran all over the country and in several different kinds of cars.
Amongst his accomplishments include: Seven Track Records while winning 50% of all Truck Races Entered. He won three Super Late Model features while finished seventh overall at Orlando in Super Late Models and runner-up overall at New Smyrna. Zehr would win the Rookie of the Year title at both facilities!
In the FASCAR Pro Truck Traveling Series he finished fifth while bringing home a runner-up showing in New Smyrna’s weekly Trucks division. Zehr also made one appearance with the ASALMS at Illiana (IN) Motor Speedway on June 4, 2005, but the event was rained out and the team did not make the trip back up for the make-up date on July 23, 2005.
During the 2006 season, Zehr carried sponsorship on the side of his Chevrolet Monte Carlo from; Coleman Racing Products, Stateline Racing, Carhartt Outerwear, Pro-Lite by Coleman, Sign Post, Zehr Engineering, and Dalton Zehr Racing.
