The Florida Short Track Report
2-26-2006

Most all of Florida’s top racers were at Desoto Super Speedway on Sunday for
the first annual
LEROY PORTER ICE BREAKER 125. With names like Mike Fritts, Wayne
Anderson, Steve Dorer, Jeff Scofield, Jeff Choquette and many others  you knew
you were in for a real treat.

Jeff Scofield set the fast time in qualifying with Darryl Shelnut second in fast times
they inverted 4 rows of cars for the start of the race putting young David Pollen
Jr. on the pole with Wayne Jefferson on the outside pole.

The green flag dropped and Wayne Jefferson jump out to an early lead on the
first lap and he never looked back. Wayne covered the field for all 125 laps of
the race with Jeff Scofield finishing second and
Darryl Shelnut taking third in the first annual LEROY PORTER ICE BREAKER
125.

The new Gulf Coast Modifieds put thirty four cars on the track for there 50 lap
race. that’s right 34 cars!
Lee Collins would have his hands full thru the whole race but was able to hold off
Wayne Jefferson and Ralph Bowman for the win. This group looks like they will
be the next big touring class for promoter Todd Hutto.

The pure stocks saw Jeff Dufresne dominate the race and Jimmie Best starting in
the back of the field in nineteenth to drive all the way to a second place finish
proves that Jimmie Best is man to watch in this class. Daune Campbell finished in
third.

The bombers put on a great show as all ways with Chester Lusk getting the win
followed by the 2005  class champ Dave Davis and Rick Germony drove too third.

The Desoto Super Speedway Truck raced  with Todd Bontrager picking up the
win and Danny Anderson finishing in second and third place went to Jeff Firestine.

Modified Mini race went to Rick Sirmans followed by Dustin Perez and Raymond
Folwell.

And a great street stock race completed this great race day with William Slack
showing the way to the checkers and Jamie Cassidy drove in to second and in
third was Casey Hall.

The race day was complete and all the fan gone before the sun set on this
perfect race day at Desoto Super Speedway.
