By Dream Motorsports/51 Sports Haines City, Florida (07/03/2007): Michael Seeright headed into the latest ASA Late Model Series Southern Division event with high hopes of being able to be up front and contend for the win. The Florida 100 Presented by FLF Racecars event was held at one of the closest tracks on the ASALMS South circuit to his hometown of Haines City, Florida; New Smyrna Speedway.
Seeright looked to be able to put on a good show for his hometown fans after qualifying in the 12th position. Both the driver and the car were fast and looked to be able to contend for the win. “We finally got the car where it was handling [well],” said Seeright. “It was the best we’ve been since we started this ASALMS tour. I finally was able to just ride and save the car.”
But Seeright’s good fortune took a turn for the worse on lap 30 when an incident occurred in front of him after another competitor dropped oil on the track. Seeright was left with nowhere to go. “Our car was easily a top five car. I was lifting about five or six car lengths early and the brakes were a little soft so I didn’t want to slide the tires. It was just phenomenal. I really hate it because we finally got the car hooked up. It got smashed up pretty good.”
Instead of celebrating their first ASA Late Model Series victory, Seeright and his Dream Motorsports team now will return home to try and repair and then prepare their car for the next ASALMS Southern Division event at Birmingham (AL) International Raceway on Saturday July 14, 2007 for the Fourth Race of the 2007 season, the Crimson 125.
The car is in pretty bad shape,” added Seeright. “It’s going to need a whole new clip. We have a lot of work in only two weeks before Birmingham. I’ve never even seen Birmingham, so it’ll be very interesting for us, that’s for sure.”
“It’s a shame for us because I think with a good finish it would have put us in the top 10 in points which would have guaranteed us a spot in the race, but we’ll just go there and do the same thing that we did here and just qualify our way in.”
“It ran really good today, and I just hate it for the whole team and all our sponsors, American Clean Energy Systems (ACES). We had a good run going for them and I just hate it. I also have to thank Dream Motorsports for giving me the opportunity to drive the car, and all the guys at AMF chassis who worked hard after Georgia to get it put back together. Now they’re going to have to do it all over again, so I feel bad for them.”
