Chad Scranton Dominates Pure Stock Feature!
By:  Tera Gunter
7-7-07

Chad Scranton continued his winning ways in the Pure Stock feature with another
wire to wire win.  Dustyn Tyre once again became Scranton’s closest challenger as
Tyre maintained his 2nd place position throughout the feature with Johnny Westfall
in 3rd.  By lap 4, Scranton was lapping the rear of the field and had gained a good
lead over Tyre until 4 laps later when the lapped traffic became a headache for
Scranton, allowing Tyre to close in.  Three cautions allowed Tyre to remain in
Scranton’s shadow but by lap 11, Jody Wells took up the 3rd position and set off
after Tyre.  Wells got loose on lap 13 giving Tyre a break and 2 laps later,
Scranton led Tyre, Wells, William Martin, and Anthony Lignore to victory lane.

Art Souther was looking to repeat last week’s win in the Mini Stock division but
David Ham put a crimp in Souther’s plans as both battled for the lead with Ham
emerging the victor.  Souther developed performance issues with his ride that
prevented him from challenging Ham.  Brack Gill moved up to challenge Ham,
bringing James Burnette with him.  Jay Farris unseated Gill to take up position
behind his teammate before Farris developed mechanical issues of his own, and
Gill once again charged Ham.  With Gill focused on Ham, Burnette surprised Gill
with a move in turn 4 to snatch Gill’s position as Ham took the checkered over
Burnette, Gill, Souther, and Farris.

Wayne Shugart returned to the speedway to lead nearly 2/3 of the Late Model
feature.  Kevin Mills and Al Larson put up a fight for the 2nd position as hard racing
between the two led to contact in turn 4.  Both quickly recovered to continue their
battle before Mills spun out on lap 9.  Larson began working Shugart on the restart
and Mills’ determination quickly became apparent as two laps later he was once
again in Larson’s rear view.  Shugart’s ride failed him on lap 14, handing Larson
the much coveted lead.  Larson held Mills at bay to take the checkered over Mills,
Richard Adams, Clyde Herron, and John Trammell.

Shawn Pawlak and Ray Hunter put on a show for the fans in the Box Stock division
as Pawlak took the lead with Hunter placing multiple challenges on Pawlak.  Casey
Feaster and Mark Wolcott Jr. took up 3rd and 4th and the top four positions gained
a good lead over the field.  Feaster’s ride overheated and Stephen Katz moved
into contention.  Hunter tried the inside and outside grooves in an attempt to shake
down Pawlak until the white flag lap when Hunter’s ride failed him.  Pawlak took the
checkered over Wolcott Jr., Katz, Kenn DeVane, and Mark Wolcott Sr.

Tim Dowling put on a dominating run in the 18 car Hobby Stock feature with David
Miller Jr. in 2nd and Mike Tripp in 3rd.  Buck Woodhouse placed challenges on
Tripp for Tripp’s position but Tripp held Woodhouse off.  Robert Hicks and Bruce
Birkett dueled for position behind Randy Moody before hard racing between Hicks
and Birkett, sent Birkett sailing sideways in turn 4.  Birkett quickly recovered but
when a caution was thrown for debris, Birkett looped his ride on the front stretch.
Since the caution was not thrown for Birkett, he gained his position back.  Dowling
went on to take the checkered over Miller, Tripp, Woodhouse, and Hicks.  A post-
race technical DQ on Dowling’s ride handed the win to Miller and 5th to Birkett.

Martin Johnson dominated a caution free Street Stock feature with Marc Kinley
emerging as Johnson’s biggest challenger.  Johnson and Kinley dueled at the
green flag drop with Kevin Mills in 3rd and Chris Manucy and Richard Adams
dueling for 4th.  Adams upset Manucy and set off after Mills.  Kinley’s ride failed on
lap 10 and Johnson gained nearly a ½ track lead to take the checkered over Mills,
Adams, Chris Vogel, and Clyde Herron

Kyle Owen overcame engine problems from last week to lead the Modified feature
wire to wire.  Robby Barris returned to the speedway to challenge Owen.  Barris
worked the inside and outside of Owen for most of the feature until Owen gained
some ground over Barris.  Lapped traffic held Owen up momentarily and allowed
Barris to close in but Owen maintained his lead over Barris.  Owen led Barris,
David Crews Jr., Justin Tilton, and David Vandevander to victory lane.

Racing resumes Saturday with regular divisions and a Box Stock 30 lap feature
race and a ladies Powder Puff on the card.  Grandstands open at 5pm.  For more
