Gene Lasker Wins Limited Sprints Feature at East Bay Raceway Park

7/28/07

By: Jason Loughren

A great crowd was on hand at East Bay for the final racing weekend of July.
Around 100 cars signed in and were ready to go as five classes of cars hit the
“Clay by the Bay” for a hot night of racing.

The Street Stocks were first to take to the track for their 15- lap feature race that
was one of the cleanest features in this class of the season.  Matthew Grissom
started from the 3rd spot and moved to the front of the field where he would lead
the early laps. Bob Smith took the lead away from Grissom on lap 6.  On lap 10
Grissom re-took the lead when Smith suffered a mechanical problem.  Grissom
lead the final five laps and took the win.  Buck Woodhouse finished 2nd.  Lonnie
Smith was 3rd.  Buckshot Meixner and Dave Floyd rounded out the top 5.  David
Strickland and Grissom won the heat races.

In the Limited Sprints points leader Gene Lasker started deep in the field in the
12th position.   He was the car to beat using the entire track to get to the front of
the field. Lasker won the feature, his 5th victory of the season.  Michael Smith
finished in 2nd position.  Frank Beck, Time George, and Paulie Milum rounded out
the top 5.  Dustin Burtron and Beck won the heat races.

The Limited Late Models put on another good show for the fans. Roger Crouse
took the checkered flag in the feature holding off the hard charging Tim Gay. Gay
led many of the early laps after starting in the 2nd position.  Crouse took the lead
from Gay on Lap 11 and went to victory lane for the 2nd time this season in the
class.  JR Prather Jr. finished 3rd.  Bruce Harvery came home 4th.  Tim Powers
had his best finish of the season in the 5th spot.  Jason Pope and Forrest Gough
won the heat races.

The Convire 4-Cylinder Bombers were in action for their end of the month special
20- lap feature event.  Randy Tyler went to victory lane for the 2nd time this
season.  Bo Dailey started in the 19th position and finished 2nd.  Collin Cruse
came home 3rd.  George Cristiansen, Sr. in his first race this season was 4th.
Robert Kissam finished 5th after problems early in the race forced him to restart in
the rear of the field.  Kever Raulerson, Cruse, and Kyle Eash were victorious in the
heat races.

The final class of the evening was the Outlaw-4’s.  Jim Coursen had the car to beat
and won his second feature race in a row.  Points leader Chad Rose finished 2nd.
Jerry Bruce, Arnold Perkins and Paul Sampson rounded out the top-5.  Micheal
Gulvin and Shane Burrows won the heat races.

East Bay Raceway Park resumes ASA-sanctioned racing Saturday August 18th at

Modified’s, Street Stocks, Outlaw-4’s and the Convire 4 Cylinder Bombers will all be
