Another fact about the ASA Late Model Series. The ASALMS Challenge Divisions’ Pat Bourdow Memorial Rookie of the Year in all five seasons hasn’t finished worse than Fourth in the overall points standings in the five-year history of the series!
In the ASALMS Challenge Division, 2003 Rookie of the Year, Mike Carter finished in the runner-up spot to 2003 USPRO Cup Series Champion, Mark Kortz. 2004 ASALMS Champion, Bobby Stremme was also the 2004 Rookie of the Year!
In 2005, Pat Bourdow Memorial Rookie of the Year, Brian Campbell finished second overall to 2005 ASALMS Champion, Stephen Leicht. The 2006 ASALMS Challenge Division Champion, Kelly Bires was also the Pat Bourdow Memorial Rookie of the Year.
Finally in the 2007 campaign, 2007 Pat Bourdow Memorial Rookie of the Year, Sean Murphy finished Fourth overall, the lowest finish for the top rookie in ASALMS Challenge Division history dating back to the 2003 USPRO Cup Series season. Murphy finished behind 2007 ASALMS Challenge Division Champion, Travis Dassow.
Plus in the ASALMS Northern and Southern Divisions, the Rookies of the Year have never finished worse than Fifth. Add to that fact is that both Southern Divisions’ top freshman in 2006 and 2007 also won the overall title as well!
In 2006, Rookie of the Year, Derek Neville finished Fifth to 2006 ASALMS Northern Division Champion, Jesse Smith while in the ASALMS Southern Division, 2006 Champion, James Buescher also won the Rookie of the Year title!
This past season, 2007 ASALMS Northern Division Rookie of the Year, Jesse Saunders finished Third overall to 2007 Champion, Trent Snyder while 2007 ASALMS Southern Division Champion, Jeff Choquette became the second straight South Champion to also win the Rookie title in the same year!
