A Double Debut on Opening Night at Ocala Speedway by BJ Cavin
Anticipation is mounting for the grand reopening of Ocala Speedway as the 55 year old track returns to dirt racing for the first time in 12 years. Opening night is scheduled for February 29th, with up to 4 racing divisions making their debut on the 3/8ths mile D shaped oval. And joining the opening night festivities will be the newest dirt late model series in Florida, the United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series. The UDLMCS joins Ocala Speedway with a 40 lap late model race featuring a $3000 purse, fittingly named the Leap Year Challenge. Ocala Speedway owner Michael Peters is thrilled to have the UDLMCS racers run their inaugural race on opening night at his speedway, and he hopes that it will be the beginning of a lasting relationship between the newest racing series in Florida and Florida's newest dirt track. More information will be announced later involving other festivities planned for the opening night at Ocala Speedway. For more information on the UDLMCS, racers can visit their website at www.fdlmcs.com. The United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series will be touring racetracks in Florida, Georgia, and Alabama in 2008, and was formerly known as the Florida Dirt Late Model Challenge Series before expanding into other states.
