The 42nd annual World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing at the New Smyrna (FL) Speedway is set for February 8-16, 2008.Posted January 7th, 2008

Lexington, Michigan (01/07/2008): The 42nd annual World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing is set for Friday February 8 through Saturday February 16, 2008 at the famed 0.500 Mile High-Banked Paved Oval of the New Smyrna (FL) Speedway, located Eight miles West of New Smyrna Beach and 15 miles South of Daytona Beach in Samsula, Florida.
The 2008 version will once again showcase the top drivers from all over the United States and Canada in Super Late Models, Late Models, Crate/ASA Late Model Series Type Late Models, SK Modifieds, NASCAR Tour Type Modifieds, Florida/IMCA Modifieds, and Advance Auto Parts Pro Trucks.
The Crate/ASALMS Type Late Models will be racing every night of 2008 Speedweeks except for Sunday February 10, 2008 and the last night on Saturday February 16, 2008. The 2008 Crate/ASALMS Type Late Models Speedweeks Champion will be crowned on Friday February 15, 2008 during Advance Auto Parts Night with a 50-Lap Feature.
The Crate/ASALMS Type Late Models were added to the Speedweeks program in 2007 and featured some of the most exciting action of the entire World Series! Broken Arrow, Oklahoma driver, Jonathan Beason was the 2007 Champion for the division!
During the 2007 version of Speedweeks for the Crate/ASALMS Type Cars, ASALMS Southern Division driver, Dalton Zehr finished second in the final points over now 15-year-old Tyler Townsend. Florida regular, Rusty Ebersole and Two-Time MAARA Series Champion and part-time competitor in the ASALMS, Will Thomas completed the Top Five in the final points.
The ASALMS Southern Division will return to the Samsula, Florida speed plant on Saturday June 21, 2008 for the running of the Florida 100.
In the ASALMS first ever appearance at New Smyrna back on June 23, 2007; Longwood, Florida driver, Brandon Johnson scored his first career ASALMS Feature Win when he led all 100 laps of the Florida 100 Presented by FLF Racecars.
Eventual 2007 ASALMS Southern Division Champion and Rookie of the Year, Jeff Choquette finished second ahead of now 17-year-old Brian Blum, who would score a career high third place finish. Fast Qualifier, Sean Bass finished fourth as ASALMS Northern Division invader, Jason Taghikhani completed the Top Five.
Wayne Morris finished sixth while Four-Time ASALMS Southern Division Feature Winner in 2007, Beau Slocumb, who came from the rear of the field, finished seventh ahead of pole-sitter Travis Cope in his first ever ASALMS appearance. Chris Fontaine and Jimmy Lang rounded out the Top 10.
Earlier in the evening in ARP Bodies/Aluminum Racing Products Qualifying, Jason Boyd was the original Fast Qualifier, but as a result of his disqualification for illegal modifications to his Crate Engine, Bass inherited the Fast Qualifier Award with an 18.315. which measures out to 97.953 MPH.
Also earlier that night, Daytona Beach, Florida Teenager, 14-year-old Chad Akins started on the pole and led all 25 laps to score his first career ASALMS win in the GM Performance Parts Shootout and transfer to the Feature. Earl Beckner finished second and also transferred. Akins would later earn the Hard- Charger Award for his 27th to 13th place run!
New Smyrna Speedway is a 0.500 Mile High-Banked Paved Oval located in Samsula, Florida and races FASCAR Stock Cars every Saturday night. The track was repaved in January 2007 in time for the 2007 season and the new pavement saw it’s first action during the 2007 Florida Speedweeks.
